Holistic Coaching for Your Developmental Journey

BIO

I am a developmental psychologist, providing coaching sessions for youth and adults in English and Turkish. I received a BA in English literature from Boğaziçi University and an MA from Koç University in developmental psychology. In my 10+ years as a researcher and coach, had the privilege to publish with Çiğdem Kağıtçıbaşı, one of the founders of cross-cultural psychology and Richard Lerner, one of the most prominent researchers in Positive Youth Development. I have also studied and participated in human development research at Harvard and Tufts University. I have huge interest in the transition from childhood to adulthood and have developed and implemented life skills and self-discovery programs for youth and adults. Some of these programs were based on body and movement. Being a dancer of 20+ years, I find dance to be an incredibly effective gateway to mindfulness, healing, and self-discovery.

APPROACH

With a background in cross-cultural psychology, much experience being an expat and member of an immigrant family, I work with themes of identity, home, and family, working with the body as “home” to self and a haven to build a secure connection with oneself and with the world. My coaching sessions involve the typical talking format but, depending on the client’s needs, I also like including elements of movement and meditation. My practice is based on somatic approaches, focusing on assisting my clients as their nervous system (mind and body as a whole) develops resilience, finds its unique way to self-regulate, and becomes ready to set and pursue goals. Therefore, the body is equally a part of my sessions as the mind, as we work with breath, movement, and bodily sensations.

Depending on where we start the journey, we may delve right into working on personal, academic, or career goals or we may spend some time quieting the mind, gaining the strength and the focus to start thinking about the future. My priority is to establish a safe and secure context for the clients to open up and be fully authentic—ultimately finding their own unique path to happiness and success.
